Swimming pool chemicals control bacteria and algae and provide a safe and clean pool. In concentrated form these chemicals are potentially dangerous. Swimming pool chemicals are reactive. If accidentally mixed with other chemicals, the mixture can become unstable and produce poisonous fumes or even fire. Pool chemicals do not pose a threat if used and stored correctly. Handle the following with care:

Keep your home safe! The NSW Fire Brigades recommends this simple safety checklist:
»
Choose the least dangerous product that will do the job, especially
when children are present.
»
If you get chemicals on your skin, follow the safety directions on
the container label.

DO NOT reuse empty containers! REMEMBER: Lock up swimming pool chemicals in a cabinet in a well ventilated area away from other chemicals and out of the reach of children. Remember, Children are curious, inventive and good climbers.

In summer to maintain the proper
level of residual chlorine when bather load is heavy, shock your
pool once a week with a 3 to 5 times higher than normal dose of
chlorine. Chlorine is broken down by the sun's ultraviolet rays.
Using cyanuric acid to stabilize the chlorine in your pool at the
beginning of the swim season will help you maximize your chlorine's
efficiency all summer long. Filters remove suspended particles from
pool water, but don't control bacteria or algae. Maintain a residual
chlorine level of 1.0-3.0 ppm (parts per million) to kill bacteria
and/or algae present in the water. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
